ARTISTS
Renie
Hi, I'm Renie Comstock, an artist from Central NY. I have my. M.F.A.I.A. from. Goddard College. Most of my work is traditional. I consider myself a magical realist. I am primarily a studio artist/illustrator; however I am comfortable using digital tools like Adobe Creative Suite. I use the traditional tools of paint, brushes, pen and ink on paper surface or a primed board. I have a camera that I use to take pictures of places, landscapes, people and animals. I look to capture relationships and connections I can reflect in my work. I want always to continuously improve my technique or expertise in reflecting textures, body language, the realistic and natural imagery of the people and pets or animals in their habitation. When in my studio working, mixing paint, putting brush to surface I am focused on the best ways of using my medium and process to honestly render my imagery of the natural world and the people and animals that live in it in an effort to draw my audience into the moment of my work and an lasting imprint on their being.

This watercolor painting of Cowboy with Horse, is a classic Western figure of the relationship between a man and his horse. I used a photo by Anita Jones Bozich as a reference for this painting.

The California Trail Interpretive Center (west of Elko, NV) hosted a ?learn & paint? activity. The subject was owls. I began this piece during the hourlong class, then, finished later giving myself a little freedom to venture away from the exact lesson example. I?m fairly new to watercolor and wanted to focus on: edges (lost, soft, found, etc.) and the expressiveness of the bird?s face. I truly enjoyed the experience of being out, painting amongst other artists, and continue to attend their

Title or Location: Springtime at Ault Park Pavilion
My Ault Park Pavilion painting was inspired by a perfect spring day when my husband and I wandered beneath the cherry blossoms at Ault Park. He paused to take photos of the blooms while I soaked in the beauty of the pavilion I?ve always loved?its arches, its history, its quiet elegance. That peaceful moment together, surrounded by soft pink petals and the architecture I adore, became the heart of this piece.
